Bonjour my friends,
Bonne Année à tous! Yes, 2013 is already here. I can’t believe it came so fast and like every other year, I’m gonna be writing 2012 instead of 2013 on checks till the month of March! One of my resolutions for this year is to continue posting one recipe a week on my blog. Since I started this blog in September, it has been a lot of fun. The blogging community is its own little universe where people with shared interests can come together and exchange ideas (and in my case, recipes). Some of my friends are getting to know me better through my blog, and I’m starting to have a little more dinner parties than I used to. I wonder why?
To start off the year, I decided to go with a classic but very special recipe to me: My mom’s recipe of the Croque-Monsieur. I have mentioned before that my mother is a great cook. She can pretty much cook anything and always have some great menu ideas. Since I grew up with this Croque-Monsieur recipe, I truly believe it is the best Croque-Monsieur in the world (my point of view might be biased but who cares, certainly not me!)
Like many of my other recipes, this is very easy to make. All you need is a sandwich grill or a Panini grill and you’re set to go. It is also a fun cooking activity for children. You can make this recipe for brunch, lunch or dinner with a salad, or even for an appetizer (cut in half) at a party (which is what I brought to the New Year’s Eve party I went to last night). It is also very good as left-overs, after a night spent partying for example.

For 4 Croque-Monsieurs:
- 8 slices of sandwich bread (white or wheat according to your preference)
- 4 slices of ham (or 2 long ones cut in half)
- About 1 cup of Gruyere Cheese or Mozzarella Cheese
- 2 Eggs
- 1/2 cup of Milk
- 1/4 cup of half & half Cream
- Salt, Pepper, Nutmeg
- a hint of rosemary (optional)
- One Sandwich grill or Panini grill
In a bowl, whip eggs, milk, salt, pepper and nutmeg together.
Take a slice of bread. Quickly dip bread into batter (both sides). Place slice on a board or plate. Add 1/8 cup of cheese. Add a slice of ham. Add another 1/8 cup of cheese. Dip another slice of bread into batter. Place on top of cheese.
Repeat instructions above to make the 4 Croque-Monsieurs.
Place Croque-Monsieurs into sandwich grill. Cook for about 4 min or until “golden.” Repeat until all Croque-Monsieurs are cooked.
Serve warm with a salad. Or cut in half for appetizers.
Option: You can cut the edges off the Croque-Monsieurs for better presentation.

Secret Ingredient: Nutmeg
Radio Station: Rodriguez, Cold Fact.
Movie to watch after dinner: When Harry Met Sally (1989). Probably one of the best New Year’s movies of all time. “I’ll have what she’s having.”
So Enjoy, Bon Appétit and C’est la Vie!
